Makeup Styles for this Summer 2013

With summer approaching, I'm preparing myself for the kind of makeup I will wear. Usually, I do the same type of makeup year-round, but this time I'm switching it up a notch by paying attention to the trends. The trend nowadays seems to be simple, bright, and youthful makeup. Most of these ideas are inspired by trends in Korea. Here is what I think is "in" this season to create a fun, bright, and playful summer look :)

1. Dewy skin
Matte skin seems appropriate for the colder seasons, while slightly dewy skin seems appropriate for the warmers seasons. The reason is pretty obvious-- your skin is naturally more moist when it's hot. Dewy skin is also appealing because it gives off a healthy and youthful glow. They even have a term for this kind of skin in Korea: "물광 피부 (mool gwang pi bu)"; "mool" meaning water and "gwang" meaning polish. Just make sure your skin's not TOO dewy, or else it'll look oily instead!

With this type of skin, using a small amount of pink or orange blush on the apples of your cheeks will help it look even perkier!

2. Simple & colorful eyeshadow
During winter and fall, earth-tone colors work well for the eyes, but for spring and winter, bright and colorful eyeshadow will be much more fun and vibrant! I think light colors like orange, pink, and peach work the best. Keep it subtle by applying a small amount to make it look simple and clean (is the way that you're making me feel tonight~.... lolll). To match the eyeshadow, use a thin line of eyeliner, and focus it on the top part of your eyes.

Add white eyeshadow/eyeliner to the inner & bottom parts of your eye to make them appear brighter

3. Light & straight eyebrows
The norm for eyebrows used to be that they should be 2 shades darker than your hair color and arched to give a mature look. Now, it's the reverse. Light eyebrows that are straight and full are very popular in Korea. They make your look younger and more gentle (which is why I bleached mine recently xD).

Left: straight & full, right: arched & thin. See what a difference it makes?

4. Gradient lips
Gradient lips are all the rage in Korea, and they are becoming popular in other parts of Asia too. They give a "doll-like" effect and look so cute and perky! To get this look, simply apply nude lipstick (or concealer) tp your lips and dab pink, orange, or red color onto the inner part of your lips. You want to keep it subtle and soft, so avoid dark colors. Also, clear lipgloss goes great with this look!

If you don't like gradient lips, just apply light colored lipstick such as nude, orange, or pink
